Kos is a popular stopping-off point among the northern Dodecanese Islands. With its marina located just a short walk from Kos's old town and pretty anchorages dotted around the island such as Kamari, Tigani, and Kardamena, this is an island that's definitely worth visiting. It's full of contrasts, offering something for everyone; whether you're looking for family-friendly beaches, a sense of history, stunning landscapes to explore, or party fun after the sun sets. Kos is steeped in history. Discover it in the archaeological site of Agora of Kos, the Roman Odeon with its imposing steps, or the ruins of the Atsigana Baths. Take time to explore the Kos coastline, with its gorgeous views and azure sea. Among our favourite beaches are quiet Lagades Bay, which is perfect for families, Lambi Mylos Beach with its lively vibe, and Marmari Limnaria, a popular windsurfing spot. If getting away from it all is something you crave on holiday, then put on your walking boots and hike Mount Dikeos, the backbone of the island. Trails start just west of Kos Town. Or simply relax in the warm waters of Therma Beach at Agios Fokas, where the mix of hot spring water and seawater creates the perfect temperature.
How many days should I spend in Kos?
When sailing around the Med a must-visit location is the idyllic Greek island of Kos. Many holidaymakers head for the island, drop anchor and spend 3-4 days exploring. From its sandy beaches to archaeological sites, quaint towns, and fabulous water sports, Kos has something for everyone.
Three to four days is plenty of time to discover what Kos has to offer. During your visit spend some time in:
Kos Town - located on the northern side of the island, Kos Town is steeped in history. Check out the Ottoman Mosques and Hippocrates Plane Tree in the main square. Enjoy a coffee in the Castle of Neratzia before heading off to see the Ancient Agora.
Tigaki Beach - after exploring the old town, what better way to relax than on Tigaki Beach. 10km west of Kos Town, it's the perfect place for chilling out, topping up your tan, or going for a swim.
Zia - for something a little different, take a drive to the quaint mountainous village of Zia. From here you can take in beautiful views of the island in all its glory.
Antimachia - this village is where you'll find the island's medieval castle which dates back to the 14th century. Spend the day here before the short 2.5 mile trip to Mastichari, a beautiful white sandy beach with crystal clear waters.
